Happy Halloween

Score!!! No Classes Today! Shippensburg University is not operating due to an electrical problem or somthing. I am missing 3 classes. Yay, this makes a 3 day week for me since I'm skipping classes on Friday to go to New York. This so rocks, and today is Halloween too. Since we have all day free, we are going to see a movie in Carlisle instead--The Legend of Zorro with Antonio Banderas (who is from Màlaga) Score, an extra long weekend!

Sunday: A day of the week

Today seemed like a really long day, but not necessarily in a bad way. I went to church, then we went golfing at Conocodell, but we only played 9 holes (Err, we may have thrown in an extra two, but I'm not admitting to anything). It was a perfect day. The weather was excellent golfing whether, and the sun made the trees look golden. I then went to quiz practice, my grandparents came over with food from the Treat, and then I watched Grey's Anatomy that we had recorded. And now? Now I am blogging and trying to get ready for classes tomorrow. That was my day, aren't you enthralled?

Pumpkin Carving

Tonight we had a pumpkin carving party to carve jack-o-lanterns. Yay, fun. Emily and I went shopping beforehand and I had a little shoe buying miscommunication. Usually people don't buy 3 pairs of shoes in one night, 2 being exactly the same...

Then we carved pumpkins. Martha Stewart told us to cut holes in both sides of the pumpkin so the candle is a lot easier to set in. It worked!
Can you guess whose pumpkin is whose?
Mine is the friendly pumpkin, and Emily's is the santanic, evil one. Go figure. It took me half the time to carve my pumpkin as it took Emily to do hers, and hers looks like it want to kill you whilest you sleep. It wants to be the master of your soul!
Tami worked on separating the goop from the seeds, which we toasted and ate later. Yum. Katie came too, and chatted a bit. Overall, a good pumpkin carving night!

Pictures from South Dakota

More pictures from SD:

1. The four of us at the conference
2. Proof we were at Mt. Rushmore
3. You ask why there is a glare on Mr. Rushmore? Well, the best picture we could get was with the soda machine. You make do, when you are cursed with fog.
4. The only good picture Emily and myself.
5. The crazy hairy goat thing grazing near the rocks along the trail.

More About Our Trip

Going through security on the way to SD, stupid Jenn tried to smuggle an exacto knife onto the plane. I actually completely forgot it was in the box with all my art supplies, and the lady pulled me over to the side and asked if I had anthing sharp inside my bag. I was sure they were going to kick me out or arrest me. My picture is probably now on the threat to America, terrorist watch list.

That is a pic of the little plane that transported us from Denver to Rapid City. The ederly woman who sat between Emily and myself commented on what a young professor we had, so that boosted Dr. Fiorini self-esteem quite a bit. The crazy rental car guy also asked "where that other boy had gotten to," once again making Dr. Fiorini feel like he was 21 again.

The other pic was the product of a request by Tyler, to get the aisle of the plane, but the flight attendent, giving his speil at the front, saw Emily pointing the camera at him, so he naturally thought we were taking a picture of him. (Which could have been, he was hot) The next time he came back to where we were sitting he asked if he should pose next time. Ha, ha, ha. That was great. Before we got off the plane then, he gave us those little pilot wings because we were "entertaining," and we had obviously just made his day.

More tommorrow, small doses are best.

South Dakota

Hey, finally back, and into the swing of things. Our Honors Service Learning presentation at the conference in Rapid City went very well, I believe everyone would agree. I know we all had a blast, and have lots of stories to tell.

We rented a car and drove out to Mt. Rushmore, but yes, as emily and I are fated, it was too foggy to see. We have lots of pictures of us smiling and pretending it is there, but really all it is a giant abyss. We don't even believe the formation exists. We theorize it is all a big hype, the statue is really about 3 feet tall and people just photoshop themselves into pictures to show their families.

For emphasis I have shown the real photo, plus the photo that I doctored for you to look at. I must say, I am good. Wouldn't you think that was a REAL photo? Pat on the back for Jenn.

I'll blog more about our trip later.

We're Here!!!!!!

Hey, this is Emily Cisney.......and Jenn! We're here in Rapid City, SD and having a blast! We went to see Mt. Rushmore. It was fun, lots of fun. Anyway, there is a dog convention here and there are so many dogs in the hotel...and the hotel is awesome!! Pool right in the middle of the lobby. Jenn brought her swimsuit and tried to make me bring mine, but I didn't and here we are on the last night and she hasn't even stuck her toe in the water. I think Jenn would get a skin rash if she got into the hot tub because it was green and slimy on the top. Yuck. It's amazing what you can learn about people when stuck with them for 3 days.

Up, up, and away.

Off to South Dakota. See you later blog friends. Driving to Philly in about an hour (4:30 the morning) to catch a plane and then sitting on it all day. Can't wait till we get to Rapid City. Adios. Don't worry, I won't forget about you. I shalt take some pics for you too. I gotta go pack.

End women's suffrage!

LOL. So a while ago I heard about this group of people who started this rally to end women's suffrage. Obviously it was a bunch of males trying to be funny, but they were campaigning and getting women to sign their petition And some were! The stupidity of Americans is strikily great. It almost makes me sick, maybe those women really shouldn't be allowed to vote ...or reproduce on that note, no need to proliferate their kind. Sure it is funny that they would do such a thing, but is this really the voice that democracy grants? Allowing idiots that would sign a petition to end women's suffrage started by chauvinist pigs, to do anything important, like say elect the leader of their country? Our national slogan should be something like: In America, even the morons have a voice.

Hate is not too harsh a word.

Do you know what song I hate?
I hate it with a passion.
The one that goes, my hump, my hump, I'm gonna make you love drunk off my lovely lady hump, or something like that, by the Black Eyed Peas. It is utterly ridiculous.
What were they thinking when they wrote it? Errrr, it makes my skin crawl.
Every time I hear it on the radio, I practically dive toward the dial to change the station. Ewww, it hurts my ears.

I learn something new everyday

Ha ha, you really do learn something new everyday. Today I typed a phrase into google that someone had used in an email and guess what I found? (Copied directly from the web site)

"A fate worse than death"

Meaning:
Rape or loss of virginity.

Origin:
Probably originated in Victorian England and attested to the belief that a dishonoured woman was better off dead. Still used but ironically of late. Edgar Rice Burroughs used it in his Tarzan of the Apes, 1914. 'The ape ... bearing Jane Porter away toward a fate a thousand times worse than death'.

Sooo, the moral of the story is, always be careful of what phrases you use, and be sure they don't allude to things that you really don't mean to say.

Disgrace

Nicole did her book discussion today on Disgrace (She did a great job). That aside, I can honestly say I hated David Lurie's character. He was an egoist, sex-crazed, immoralist. I don't understand him--why he did what he did. Yet somehow it seems the reader is expected to like him, or at least to relate to him, but I can not at all. It bothers me how sex was portrayed in this novel. It was reguarded way too casually, yet a driving force/necessity at the same time. This is one of those books you can not put in a little white box, and that frustrates me. I want to understand it, to interpret it, to say it fits neatly here, and this is its theme, this is what it is trying to tell me. I feel more confused, almost empty after reading it. What was its point, why are people so intrigued with it? What is its allure? I am disturbed by its lack of morality, and even the title--disgrace is a value only if you have a sense of honor and respect to start out with.

If you read the book, we can debate the issues. I do enjoy a good argument!

Gettysburg Outlets

Shopping was fun on Monday, as Emily mentioned earlier we were going. Gap and Old Navy, Aeropostle and American Eagle, Claires and Addias: They have it all. I got $75 sneakers for only 16 bucks, a sweater, and jewelry for 50 cents a piece. Great deals, good company, what a nice fall break/Columbus Day!

Birthday

Between my mom and sister's birthday, we had a party for them both this Sunday. We ate at the Cracker Barrel and then had cake for desert. At the restaurant, they have those little games where you try to have the least pegs remaining and they assign you names based on how you did. Jason and I managed to have 5 pegs remaining so we decided to change the game to see how stupid you could be. I'd say we were both pretty successful.

I love the picture that looks like Tara is flapping her wings to fly away. She is actually just putting on her new coat, but I like to pretend that she is trying to fly, it makes it so much more interesting.

Guess who?

Hey, this is Emily....Jenn has given me the wonderful privedge of blogging. So what should I talk about? Well, me, Jenn, Tami, and Nicole are going shopping to the Gettysburg Outlets, yay!!! We'll see how much we'll buy....Columbus Day sales!

Brrrrrrrrr

Brrrr, It was cold today!
Foolish Jenn went outside, scavenging for leaves that turned out to be dripping wet. They are for the kids that I teach Sunday School tomorrow to rub crayons over and get the imprint of the veins and such. While outside, the rain and wind weren't the most pleasant companions since I happened to be wearing shorts. But then of course, I hit golf balls outside too. Not a good idea. But I guess once you are out there it ain't so bad after all. I miss the warm weather.
Boo hoo, Mr. Frosty is headed our way.

"Soy una refrigerador"

Just talking to a friend on Wednesday about stupid stuff that happens when you try to speak a foreign language because we had our oral exams this week, where you go in and just talk one on one with the prof, and hope you use the right conjugation of verbs. I think I did pretty well actually, although I was really nervous.

We were laughing about my favorite quote ever: In high school Señor had tests where we had to make up our own sentences for vocab words but the hopelessly Spanish challenged Emily W. didn't know what a certain word was so she inadvertently wrote...

"I am a refrigerator" Bah ha hahahahah. I love it. It is just too great.

Flirting

So Tami came up with the most profound way of letting someone know that you are interested in them. Let me share her theory with you.

First you bring up the subject of high school. Then you talk about how you liked to flirt with your teachers, and then you use that a headway to talk about how you have been flirting with them for the past forever.

Talk about profound, that would definatly not scare the guys away. (And I didn't flirt with my teachers, it was only a misunderstanding.) Tami really knows how to trick guys into wearing the pants!

pictureless

Blogs are always better with pictures, but to tell the truth, I haven't really taken any of late. I took some of our service learning class for a presentation, but they aren't aren't exactely "fun" photos. Sorry that I am pictureless.

This week I have/had tons of meeting meetings meetings. Soon it will be fall break and hopefully I get caught up with work that I am behind on. So that is a relief.

Just to vent: Who calls their professor on a Saturday night? Is it ok for a friend to get upset with you, because you refuse to do such a thing? I offered to call the next afternoon. Geez, plus he was on VACATION. I'm sure he didn't want to be bothered.

But on another note, I am so excited to go to South Dakota for the service learning conference. I think it will be a lot of fun, and hopefully we can get full funding from the honors program. Oh, and I really want to see Mt. Rushmore which is only like 30 minutes aways, and we are talking about maybe visiting an Indian Reservation. Goody, goody, I can't wait!
