It's Officially Official

Well, it's official now.  After visiting the doctor's office a million times to get a rather extensive (and unfortunately expensive) physical for medical clearance, the Fulbright commission was finally able to book a flight for me.  Harrisburg to Philadelphia to Miami to Montevideo.  13 hours in-air travel time.

The surrealism is just now starting to sink in.  I am really doing this.  I am really up and moving to Uruguay in less than a week.  I can't wait to find out what the next 8 months of my life are going to hold!

  2. I just stumbled across your blog today. Congratulations. I found out that I made the 1st round selections for a Fulbright in January and am not waiting (im)patiently for the final reply which can take up to May.

For me the decision to accept is a lot harder because I graduate with my Masters in May. I already have a full time job (not in my field though) and my worry is that I might not find work when I return from the Fulbright next year.

Anyhow, I look forward to following your progress over the coming weeks. Post as much details as you can.

  3. Thank you thank you!

Nobilis--good luck on your application. I wish you the best. Everyone I've talked to about whether to accept a Fulbright or not has said that it is a great experience and will look amazing on your resume, and thus pave the way for great opportunities once you return. Worry about the future is NOT a good reason to turn down something like this. The personal (and likely professional) benefits will be many.

I do have to admit that the thought of taking a year out of my life was a bit scary, but ultimately I came to the realization that it will be well-worth the risk.
