Made it to the final round!

Thanks to everyone who voted for us in Northern Virginia Magazine's Dream Wedding Contest! We made it to the final final round! We love you guys so much, and we're so thankful for you. And we're soooo freakin' excited. It would be such a blessing to win a wedding. Even though we've been engaged for awhile, we haven't been able to start wedding planning (much to my frustration), because we didn't know how we would pay for it. But this isn't just a wedding we're in the running to win, it's a dream wedding. Sigh.

We're going to need your help again in a week when voting starts for the final round. So get ready! I will blog throughout the voting period, and if we win, throughout the whole wedding planning process too. I've missed blogging, and I think I'm ready jump back in.

We filmed our second video for the contest yesterday. This time the professionals filmed it. They asked us some surprise questions...yikes! Let's just see how the video turns out. Jamal and I won't see each other's responses until the videos are posted. Oh goodness. For me at least, it was one of those things where I thought of waaay better answers an hour later. Like when you think of an awesome comeback 10 minutes after the relevant conversation went down, but by that point no one can appreciate your wit. Yeah, just like that.

Ain't No Weatherman

I teach Oral Communication: Principles and Practice and have my students bring in an artifact to illustrate some concept we will go over within that class.

One of my students used this video as an example of listening gone all wrong.
It's quite appropriate (and by the same token, completely inappropriate).
Hahahaha.
I love my job.

So Christina Aguilera, that's what you were really saying. Hmmmm.

Apparently there are a bunch of these. I had no idea.

Children Are The Future

The Overprivileged Children's Fund

This holiday season, help where you are needed most. Upgrade little Sammy's iPod. 16 Gigs is never enough. American children are suffering.

Can you spell INDOCTRINATION?

Holy Word! This is creepy. A whole new level of creepy I didn't even think existed in 21st century America.

Sing for Change A bunch of children singing hymns for Obama. The angelic little voices. Matching t-shirts. Excited parents and overzealous music teacher.

If this isn't bad for democracy, I don't know would be. Am I the only one who thinks cult-like children groups are a bad sign for our future? No matter the candidate being endorsed, this is political propaganda and indoctrination at its worst.

Jib Jab On the Political Scene Again

While I generally dislike stupid humor, I admit that I had to laugh at JibJab's new 2008 election video. My favorite part, hands down, is Obama riding through the enchanted forest on a unicorn singing "the change we must change to the change we hold so dear. I really like change have I made myself clear?" I about lost it. Hahahaha.

And then he knocks over poor Hillary Clinton. Oh, satire.

Hopeline

As part of an effort to curb suicides and partner with one of my favorite websites, PostSecret (which I've blogged about here), I am posting this video. It is trying raise awareness about Hopeline whose goal is to save lives.
People sometimes need help. And having a hotline to call could be the difference between life and death. We don't always know what kind of struggles the very people around us are going through. Keep hope alive.
